History
On October 13, 1996 Faith Temple of Christ was birthed as a few people gathered in Pastor and Minister Sheila Walton's home for the first worship service. Services continued in the home every Sunday until the first service was held on November 10th in the Merrillville High School arena. This blessing was only the beginning of the miracles to come!
In the year of 1998 our Christian Education Department was established with Christian Development classes for all ages every Sunday morning. Also, early morning prayer was birthed in the sanctuary at FTOC from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. Finally in December of 1998, plans proceeded to purchase our new church facility and in January of 1999 we moved into our church home at 7601 Whitcomb Street in Merrillville, Indiana.
From then on new and exciting things have been developing at Faith Temple of Christ as the congregation celebrated 3 years later the burning of their church mortgage. To God be the glory for the grace He has given us, to build and advance His kingdom!
Pastor Dennis Walton
Pastor Dennis Walton was born a resident of Gary, Indiana and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1984. He obtain a BSEET Degree from Devry Institute of Technology and is a former instructor of Ivy Tech Gary, Valparaiso and Michigan City. He is a former employee of US Steel and teacher of the Michigan City state prison for more than six years. He answered the call to full time ministry in 1994 and founded Faith Temple of Christ in 1996.
Minister Shelia Walton
Minister Sheila Walton was born a resident of Gary, Indiana and received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management from Indiana University. She served as a licensed teacher in the Gary and Merrillville public school Corporations before responding to the call to full time ministry. Minister Sheila and her husband are the founders of Computer Skills and Training Center which offers State and National Certifications in the technical and medical fields.
WHAT WE BELIEVE?
●The Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God.
●In the triune nature of God – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
●All have sinned and come short of the glory of God and are in need of salvation.
●Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men.
●That the in-filling of the Holy Spirit is an experience subsequent to salvation, and that it is the will of God that all be filled.
●Healing is provided in the redemptive work of Christ and is available to every believer.
●The Church consists of all those who have received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
●There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust.
●In the personal, visible, imminent return of Jesus Christ.
●In water baptism and the observance of the Lord’s Supper.
